Mixed Messages:The Changing Face of Discipline in School Systems

Educational Consultant, Dan St. Romain will facilitate this workshop "Mixed Messages: The Changing Face of Discipline in the School System".

Toto, you’re not in Kansas anymore.  Although behaviors in the school system have changed a great deal in the past few decades, our strategies for supporting these behaviors have not.  As times change, so must our behavioral practices.  Unfortunately, too often administrators in the school system jump from program to program trying desperately to solve their discipline problems only to find minimal short-term success.  By examining the information we have learned about the brain in the past decade, we are in a better position to understand how to best create long-term behavior change.

In this session, participants will examine the myriad factors impacting behavior in today's society, as well as specific principles designed to support positive behavioral change in the school setting.  This information complements the Positive Behavior Supports framework and is applicable at all levels of development, early childhood through adult learning.
