Kearney Storytelling Festival

The Kearney Storytelling Festival began in 1988 with a group of storytellers under a large tent in a back yard.  In 1990 it became a yearly tradition of bringing professional storytellers to central Nebraska.  Now in its' 23^rd year, the festival has grown over the years to include national storytellers, opportunities for tellers to present their stories in schools and even a performance for mature audiences.  This year's festival was held January 17-22, 2011 and featured national storyteller Rosie Cutrer, along with other national and regional storytellers.

Rosie Cutrer, a storyteller from Topeka, Kansas, is on the Kansas Arts Commission's roster of performing artists. She has been telling stories professionally for the past twelve years, presenting at festivals, schools, libraries and museums. Her programs always include music while she accompanies herself on the banjo as a break in between stories. Most recently she had the honor of being chosen as a regional teller at the National Storytelling Conference in St. Louis.

Rosie's presentation was shared by video conference to Spalding Elementary School during the festival with the help of ESU 10 and also recorded at the ESU 10 studio.  With permission from the Kearney Area Storyteller Festival and Rosie, other schools may also watch the recorded video which can be viewed on the following link.
