Simply Music Piano Workshop
December 31, 1969

Several
teachers attended a "Simply Music" piano workshop in February at ESU 10. Simply Music is a hands-on playing-based
approach to music. The Simply
Music method is a revolutionary Australian developed program that teaches students
to play music through simple shapes and patterns, before teaching them to read
notes on a page!
The workshop activities, when used in the classroom, teach groups of
children how to play great-sounding songs on the piano, using both hands
together, in one class period. This is a fun, natural and quick way to teach
piano pieces to students. At the workshop teachers learned four songs,
variations, arrangements, duets, and composition and improvisation exercises.
Although primarily designed for music teachers, elementary teachers with an
interest in music, as well as teachers who work with high ability and special education
students might also find this method of teaching music beneficial.
