The Good Old Summer Time - ESU 10 Style

Summer time at Educational Service Unit 10 has officially started. The first thing that means for all publics is that summer office hours have begun. The doors open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff takes a shorter lunch break so they can better enjoy outdoor activities at the end of the workday.

It’s hard for people to understand, but summer means an increase of activity here in the ESU 10 headquarters building. I just checked the training calendar, and the only week with empty meeting rooms is the first week of July. That means our parking lot will be full all summer. Parking should not be a problem, but be wary because construction on the new addition has begun just south of our current building. Watch for big vehicles driving in and out and a tad more dirt and noise in the area than you are used to experiencing.

It is also time for the cooperative purchasing program to be in full swing. Once again it means large trucks delivering goods and a beehive of activity as items come in and go back out to schools over the next two months. Last year we unloaded and sorted about 70 trailer loads of various furniture and supplies and sent those supplies out to schools utilizing ESU 10’s fleet for slightly more than eight weeks. Sherry, Roxie, Amanda, Emily, and Morgan from Kearney Public Schools found out what working in ESU 10’s warehouse means as they process a new reading series for KPS in borrowed warehouse space. They will soon feel like trapped mice in a maze as the delivery trucks keep pulling in and the 10-foot walls of paper pallets creep closer to their work area.

For those of you who use Internet, the dates June 6th and July 1st might be important to you. Service will be disrupted on those days as the system is changed and upgraded, but ESU 10 staff will work hard to keep any disruption to a minimum.

The ESU 10 fiscal year also ends June 30, so we are busily closing out 2007-2008 budgets and records and preparing new budgets to implement on July 1st.

Let the good times roll! Be assured that even during the hot days of summer the ESU 10 staff is “partnering with our customers to meet changing needs through expertise, training, and support.”
