Ed Bosworth
ESU 10 Board Member
1981 to 2008
The board, administration, and staff of Educational Service Unit 10 mourn the death of Edward Bosworth on March 13, 2008. Ed was seated to serve on the ESU 10 board in January of 1981 and served in that capacity for the following 27 years. He was still serving on the board as Valley County’s representative at the time of his death.
Ed was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, in August of 1933, and graduated from high school there. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Peru State College in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958. After marrying Elaine Meyer on July 4, 1958, the couple moved to Arcadia, Nebraska, where he taught in the public school until 1967. Ed, Elaine, and their three children then moved to Ord, Nebraska, where Ed taught in the public school until his retirement in 1994.
During his tenure on the board of Educational Service Unit 10, Ed was very active in board-related conferences and professional growth activities. He seldom missed an ESU 10 board meeting and actively participated in the meetings. He was a strong advocate of the programs made available to area schools through ESU 10 and often emphasized the need to regularly and unashamedly communicate to state senators and the general public the value of ESU 10’s programs and of service units in general.
Due to recent legislation that redefined the governance and election boundaries of ESUs, Ed’s current term on the board was set to expire in December of 2008. He was eligible to file for election as a representative of one of ESU 10’s nine new election districts but had not yet made a decision to do so.
Ed Bosworth’s service to education over the course of his life is commendable and will form a part of the legacy that lives beyond him.
