Meet the ESU 10 Special Education Staff
Hello. My name is Rick Love and I am the Transition Specialist for ESU 10. My office is located in Cozad and I currently serve twenty-four schools in the ESU 10 region. My wife Anngela is a fourth grade teacher at Cozad Public Schools. I have two children, a daughter Erin and a son Eric, who are both graduates of Cozad High School.
As a Transition Specialist, I help coordinate activities for students with disabilities to promote movement from school to post-school activities. These post-school activities include post-secondary education, vocational training, integrated employment, continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, and/or community participation. The design of this coordinated set of activities is focused on outcomes. Transition is based upon the individual student's needs, and takes into account the student's preferences and interests. It encompasses instruction, related services, community experiences, the development of employment and other post-school adult living objectives and, when appropriate, acquisition of daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation.
I enjoy my work as a Transition Specialist because each school seems to have different needs and that brings a lot of variety to my job. One day I might be sitting in on a student's IEP meeting helping with transition goals and objectives while another day finds me visiting with employers in a community to set up a work experience for a student as part of their school day. This gives me a chance to interact with many different people both in and out of a school setting. The teachers I work with are fantastic. They really are dedicated to helping their students be successful. Having a chance to be a part of that process is why I like my work as a Transition Specialist
